One of the last living things on this planet with a direct connection to Babe Ruth is the tree he planted on the famous “Hilo Walk of Fame” in Hawaii. It had become tradition for celebrities passing through the islands to plant a banyan sapling, and that’s exactly what the Babe did when he was in Hilo on October 29, 1933. The big slugger also appeared in an exhibition game against the locals that day, and that is when he signed and dated this ball. The Babe has signed this Reach Official American League ball on the sweet spot in blue fountain pen. A heavy coat of shellac has been applied to the ball that has darkened with age. In addition, the ball has “Oct. 29, 1933 Hoolulu Park Hilo, Hawaii” written in an unknown hand. A unique single-signed ball from one of Ruth’s post-season appearances dated to the very day he planted his famous banyan tree that can still be seen today. The ball comes with a LOA from JSA (Y33717) for the signature.
