Although Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth’s relationship cooled during the 1930s, the two great Yankee sluggers were close during their early years as teammates. Here, Gehrig and Ruth are pictured during a cold-weather fishing trip, the two superstar athletes dwarfing a seaman standing between them. Of the two, Ruth looks the part of the dedicated deep-sea angler, wearing calf-high boots and a heavy-duty jacket as he clutches a long fishing pole in his left paw. Gehrig portrays the spitting image of a Columbia man, sporting a fashionable hat and thick sweater as he too grips a fishing pole. Gehrig has signed this photograph in black pen above his head. His crisp signature presents beautifully and clearly. Please note that Ruth’s signature has been deemed secretarial by JSA. This photograph measures 8.5 x 7 inches and shows some wear. The upper right-hand corner of the photograph is missing, and a business card for one “Edmund A. Pigeon” is adhered to the back of the photograph. This item comes with a LOA from JSA for Gehrig’s signature (Z89937).
