The Hall of Fame centerfielder Kirby Puckett was presented with the Branch Rickey Award in 1993 by the Rotary Club of Denver. Puckett was the second winner of this award, after Dave Winfield in 1992, and one of nine Hall of Famers to win the award. The Branch Rickey Award was presented from 1992 through 2014 to the baseball player who best exemplifies the Rotary Club’s motto of “Service Above Self”, with each team nominating one player per season for the prestigious honor. This Branch Rickey Award is a silver medal approximately three inches in diameter with a red, white, and blue ribbon. Etched in high relief on one side of the award is “’Service Above Self’ / The Branch Rickey Award / Rotary Club of Denver” and a Rotary Club logo. Etched on the same side is “Kirby Puckett”. The other side of the medal has a high relief baseball player and the engraving “Branch Rickey Award 1993”, as well as the artist’s etched signature. This medal is in great condition and is a terrific artifact from a legendary career.
