Presented here is Max Carey’s Uniform Manager’s Contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers for the 1934 MLB season. Carey, a Hall of Fame player with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Robins, managed the Dodgers in 1932 and 1933 before agreeing to renew his contract for the 1934 season in August of 1933. The Dodgers finished the 1933 season with a record of 65-88, leading to Carey’s firing before the beginning of the 1934 season. In his place, the Dodgers hired Casey Stengel to his first managerial post. Had this contract been in effect for the 1934 season, Carey would have been paid $12,500 by the Dodgers. The contract has been signed in black by Carey and Dodgers President Stephen W. McKeever. The back of the contract has been signed by National League President John Heydler. This contract comes with a LOA from JSA (Z02156).
