A sweet-swinging second baseman, Bobby Doerr made nine All-Star teams in his 14 season MLB career that spanned three decades. After his playing days ended, Doerr stayed close to the Red Sox, first as a scout, then batting instructor and first base coach. By referencing Doerr’s bat order records, it appears that he ordered S2 model bats in January 1951, but this order has been crossed out on the order sheet. A second order of S2 bats was ordered in 1956, four years after Doerr retired as a player. This 1951-1957 era Hillerich & Bradsby D2 model bat is un-cracked and displays heavy use. Ball marks are found on all sides of the barrel along with abrasions from contact with other equipment. The model number “D2” is stamped into the knob and Doerr has signed the barrel with “My Game Bat HOF 86” is blue marker. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15038) for the game use and a LOA from JSA (Z67439) for the signature.
