Presented here is a ticket stub from the historic fourth game of the 1929 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics. The Cubs built an 8-0 lead against the A’s over the first seven innings before a remarkable implosion by Cubs starter Charlie Root allowed the A’s to tally 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh frame. Al Simmons led off the inning with a solo home run, Mule Haas hit an inside-the-park homer that plated three runs, and Jimmy Dykes had not one, but two RBI hits in the inning. The Hall of Fame ace Lefty Grove took the hill for the eighth and ninth innings, striking out four of the six batters he faced to preserve the Athletics shocking 10-8 win. Rogers Hornsby finished 2-5 with two runs for Chicago and Kiki Cuyler had a 3-4 outing with two RBI and two runs. The Athletics took the Fall Classic title in five games, winning the deciding contest 3-2 at Shibe Park two days later.
