The legendary Babe Ruth has signed this check dated to October 28th, 1946. Ruth was still a global star at the time, having retired from baseball just a decade earlier. 1946 was a pivotal year in the life of baseball’s greatest slugger, as he would be diagnosed in November of 1946 with an eventually fatal malignant tumor. This check is made out to one “Jay B. Starkey”, and it is for the value of $6.46. The check was issued by the Chase National Bank of the City of New York, and it has been signed by Ruth in black pen. Ruth signed his name as “GH Ruth”, using his birth name of George Herman rather than “Babe”. This check features hole punches on the face, however none of these affect Ruth’s iconic signature. This check has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83902217).
