Presented is a 55-card complete set of "Astronauts" non-sports cards issued in 1963, plus a 3-D viewer. This release came out at the height of our country's race to orbit the Earth and, ultimately, to land on the surface of the moon. The set is a perennially popular issue that showcases the brave men who led the quest to conquer the new frontier. The original seven Mercury astronauts featured in the set (John Glenn, Alan Shepard, Virgil Grissom, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter, Walter Schirra, and Donald Slayton) are presented on spectacular full-color trading cards of America's original space travelers. The cardfronts display official NASA color photos of the astronauts in training, along with text captions. Fascinating "3-D" imagery is shown on the back. Overall, the set grades EX.
