On a team known for its fiery and flashy personalities, first baseman Gil Hodges stood out for his quiet show of strength. Throughout the 1950’s, Hodges held down the initial sack for the Dodgers and acted as the team’s voice of reason, keeping his teammate cool and collected during a decade’s worth of hotly contested pennant races. Hodges wielded this Hillerich & Bradsby bat during the Dodgers’ second and third seasons Los Angeles. During that time, Hodges hit 33 home runs and was a key contributor to the Dodgers’ first World Championship on the west coast. Gil’s Hillerich & Bradsby H178 model bat shows outstanding use with a repaired handle crack. Many ball marks with stitch impressions are visible on the barrel along with green bat rack paint streaks. A light coat of pine tar is on the handle and the model number “H178” is stamped into the knob. Hodge’s number “14” hand written on the knob in faded black marker completes this great Boys of Summer gamer. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B12852) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5.
