The New York Giants and Boston Red Sox faced off in a thrilling World Series to end the 1912 MLB season. The Fall Classic lasted eight games, with a 6-6 tie in Game 2 necessitating the extra contest. The Red Sox won this World Series four games to three to one tie, with Smoky Joe Wood completing arguably the greatest pitching season in baseball history by earning the victory in the clinching eighth game.

Offered in this lot is a ticket stub to Game 4 at the Polo Grounds, which saw Wood match up with Giants rookie and 1912 NL ERA leader Jeff Tesreau. Wood, who went 34-5 with a 1.91 ERA and a streak of 16-straight victories in 1912, hurled a masterful complete game in the Red Sox 3-1 road victory. Wood struck out eight and allowed only the one run, on an Art Fletcher double in the seventh inning. Wood, who would later turn into an excellent outfielder after a series of injuries, went 2-4 with an RBI to help his own cause. Hick Cady recorded the Sox other RBI and player-manager Jake Stahl completed the scoring by crossing the plate on a Tesreau wild pitch in the second frame. This offered ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded a GOOD 2 by PSA (25821974), with only one example graded higher!
