The Hall of Famer Ty Cobb has signed this First National Bank of Nevada check. Cobb, a standout across 24 MLB seasons with the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Athletics, is baseball’s all-time batting champion with a .366 career average. The owner of 4,189 career hits, Cobb was baseball’s hit king until a fellow named Pete Rose came along. Cobb won 12 American League batting titles and was regarded as the best player in the history of the sport until Babe Ruth began hitting home runs at an unprecedented rate. This offered check is dated to August 30th, 1946, the 41st anniversary of Cobb’s MLB debut as a fresh-faced 18-year old in 1905. The check is for the value of $2.02 payable to “Capital City Laundry”. The check is hole punched, however these holes do nothing to impinge upon the quality of Cobb’s blue steel-tip fountain pen signature. Cobb has signed the check as “Tyrus R. Cobb”. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (X49375).
