Willie Mays wrapped up the 1960’s by being named the Sporting News “Player of the Decade.” Mays ended the 1960’s by hitting his 600th career home run in September of 1969 but was slowed by a series of season-long injuries. He came roaring back in 1970, pounding out 28 home runs. This bat was obtained by the Cincinnati Red equipment manager Bernie Stowe at some point during the 1968-1970 seasons.
Willie’s Adirondack M63 model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. Several ball marks can be seen on the left barrel and a moderate coat of pine tar is on the upper handle and a light coat on the lower handle. The model number “M63” is stamped into the knob and the faded lettering on the center and barrel brands has been restored. The bat comes with a from PSA/DNA (1B16088) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5, plus a signed letter of provenance from Pricilla Stowe, widow of Bernie Stowe.
