1971 was the last of McCovey’s six All-Star seasons. The 33-year-old Giants first baseman hit .277 with 18 home runs as the Giants finished first the NL West. In the NLCS against Pittsburgh, McCovey was a one-man wrecking crew, tagging Pirates pitching for a .429 average including a pair of homers. McCovey’s 1971 Hillerich & Bradsby W215 model bat shows excellent use with a handle crack. There are many ball marks with stitch impressions on the right and back barrel. Green and red bat rack paint streaks are visible and there is a moderate coat of pine tar on the handle. The model number “W215” is stamped into the knob and his number “44” is hand written in fading black marker. The Hall of Famer has signed the barrel in blue marker. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (H53808) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5, plus a COA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
