By 1977, Tom Seaver was approaching free agency. Despite leading the NL in wins for five of the past seven seasons, Seaver and the Mets ownership were growing farther apart on contract terms, and on June 15th, Seaver was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. Ever the professional, Seaver didn’t let the “Midnight Massacre” get in the way of his work on the mound as he went 21-6 (7 of them shutouts) with a 2.58 ERA split between New York and Cincinnati. Tom Terrific’s Hillerich & Bradsby K55 model bat shows outstanding use with a secured handle crack. Several ball marks with stitch impressions are found on the right, left and back barrel. Cleat marks and black ink transfers are visible along with red bat rack paint streaks. A light coat of pine tar is found on the handle and Seaver’s number “41” is written on the knob and barrel end in black marker. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15654) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5.
