San Diego Padres legend Tony Gwynn wore this gray road jersey in the late 1990’s. Gwynn, an eight-time National League batting champion, starred for the Padres from 1982 to 2001, collecting over 3,000 hits and 15 All-Star appearances along the way. The San Diego native led the Padres to their only two World Series appearances, in 1984 and 1998, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

This jersey is dated to either the 1996 or 1998 seasons due to the absence of a year tag and the configuration of Gwynn’s sleeve patches. Gwynn won the NL batting title in 1996, hitting .353, and followed that up with a .321 average in 1998. This gray, button-down road jersey has “SAN DIEGO” sewn across the chest in navy, white, and orange tackle twill. “GWYNN” is sewn across the back shoulders in navy tackle twill, and his number “19” is sewn below in navy, white, and orange tackle twill. A Padres logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve and a Russell Athletic logo is sewn on the right. A Russell Athletic size “50” tag is sewn on the front left tail. Gwynn has signed the “1” digit on the back of the jersey in silver marker. This jersey comes with a LOA from JSA (Z83345) for the signature.

Also included in this lot are a pair of Gwynn’s gray road pants worn circa 1992-93. A Russell Athletic size “38” tag and a “19-28-29” swatch are sewn on the back inside waistband. An Intera flag is attached to the Russell tag. A 3.75 x 4 inch team repair is present on the right buttocks. This uniform comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use.
