“Sweet Lou” Lou Whitaker was the Tigers leadoff man for almost two decades. Paired with Alan Trammell, the pair formed the longest running “double play” team in MLB history. Whitaker was one of the premier second baseman during the labeling period of this Louisville Slugger K48 model bat. Between the 1986 and 1989 seasons to which this offered bat dates to, Whitaker made two all-star appearances and combined for 76 home runs and 272 RBI. This bat displays outstanding game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, blue ink transfers, black streaks and cleat imprints on the barrel. The upper handle has a moderate coating of pine tar and Whitaker’s number “1” is handwritten in black marker on the knob and top barrel. The knob also has a small piece missing. Adding to this fantastic gamer is Whitaker’s signature on in black marker on the barrel and he also inscribed “Best Wishes” and “#1” with a circle around it. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B16646) for the game use and a COA from Beckett Authentication (G12987) for his signature.
