Perhaps no season was as exciting as 1998’s single-season home run race. All summer, St. Louis’ Mark McGwire, Seattle’s Ken Griffey, Jr., Chicago’s Sammy Sosa battled it out, each striving to break the most famous record in the game – Roger Maris’ 61 home run mark. Big Mac eventually emerged the victor, hitting the record breaking 62nd homer on September 8th and adding eight more by the time the season ended to finish with 70.

Used by McGwire during that memorable summer, the Rawlings MAC25 model bat is un-cracked and shows light to moderate use. There are several ball marks and stitch impressions on the left and back barrel along with some black ink transfers. A light coat of pine tar is on the handle and the model “MAC25,” order “289,” and year “98” are stamped into the knob. McGwire’s name and bat length “33” are hand written on the knob in blue pen. The home run champ has signed the barrel in black marker adding “STL 25.” The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B16507) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5, plus a COA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
