Offered in this lot is a unique letter typed and signed by Washington Senators ace Walter Johnson sent to Mr. Carson C. Hathaway of Washington, D.C. The letter reads “Dear Mr. Hathaway, I want to thank you for sending me the article you wrote for the Dearborn Independent. I enjoyed reading it, and Mrs. Johnson has put it in her scrapbooks”. The letter is dated to April 22nd, 1925, the date of Johnson’s second start in the 1925 season. Johnson pitched a complete game in the Senators 10-1 win over the New York Yankees, allowing a single unearned run while striking out four Yankees. Lou Gehrig, in his rookie season, finished 1-3 in this contest. Included with this signed letter is a ticket stub to the game in question. Johnson has signed this letter, which is typed on his personal letterhead, in black pen. This letter comes with a LOA from JSA (X32140).
