The pioneering Hall of Fame manager Harry Wright handwrote this letter to William “Pop” Schriver, a young catcher on Wright’s Philadelphia Quakers ballclub. Wright, writing to Schriver in November of 1889, reassures the 24-year old the soon-to-be Phillies would “protect [him] in all particulars, as promised [Schriver] when [he] signed” with the Quakers. Schriver had sent Wright a letter the previous day regarding threats made by another team about his contract status with the Quakers. This letter is written in black pen on “Office of the Manager” stationary, with the address “1941 North 22 St” and the date “Nov. 21st 1889” written on the top of the letter. Wright has signed this letter in black pen. Please note the upper and lower left corners of the letter are trimmed. This historically significant letter comes with a LOA from JSA (X91892).
