Michael Jordan wore this Chicago Bulls warmup suit (jacket and pants) during the 1988-89 NBA season, arguably his greatest individual year as a professional. This was Jordan’s age-25 season and his fifth campaign as a Bull, with the former first round pick coming off two consecutive seasons as the NBA’s scoring champion. Jordan made it three straight scoring titles in 1988-89, averaging an NBA-best 32.5 points per game in the midst of a seven-year reign as the NBA’s scoring champ. Jordan averaged eight assists and eight rebounds per game, with both numbers representing career-best marks for the former Tar Heel. He averaged 2.9 steals per game with his swarming defense from the two-guard position, earning a spot on both the All-NBA First Team and the All-NBA Defensive First Team. While Magic Johnson was named the NBA MVP, Jordan took home the 1988-89 Sporting News Most Valuable Player Award.
This offered Bulls warmup jacket is a primarily white button-down. The collar and sleeve openings feature red-white-red striping, and the and the waist is white and black. Red piping accents the sleeves and chest. Much of the white paint on the jacket buttons has chipped due to use by Jordan. Applied to the chest in black lettering is “Chicago Bulls” over a Bulls logo, and an NBA logo patch is sewn on the upper right chest. A large Bulls logo is applied to the back of this jacket. Sewn on the back inside collar are “88”, “Designed Exclusively for the Chicago Bulls”, “2[inch] L.B.” and Sand-Knit size “44” tags. Jordan’s number “23” is handwritten in black marker on the Sand-Knit tag.
The pants in this lot are white, black, and red, with tear-away buttons running down the legs. An NBA logo patch is sewn on the right leg. Sewn on the back inside waistband are “88”, “Designed Exclusively for the Chicago Bulls”, “37[inch] IN”, “1[inch] HR”, and Sand-Knit size “36” tags. Jordan’s number “23” is handwritten in black marker on the Sand-Knit tag. This warmup suit comes with a LOA from the Chicago Bulls authenticating use by Jordan.
