“This is going to be a tough play…Bryant…The Cubs win the World Series!! Bryant makes the play. It’s Over! And The Cubs have finally won it all!” That was Joe Buck’s call at the end of the historic 2016 World Series. After 108 years, six grueling games and an eight-inning meltdown that saw the Cleveland Indians plate three runs to erase a 6-3 deficit in Game 7, Cubs fans were thinking “Here we go again!”.

But this was a special team and November 2nd, 2016 will be a night long remembered. A team that embraced the challenge of breaking the “Curse of the Billy Goat” and saw to it that the North Side of Chicago can taste the thrill of victory. With the game tied at six apiece in the top of the 10th inning, the Cubs scored two crucial runs thanks to a key double by World Series MVP Ben Zobrist and what turned out to be the winning hit by Miguel Montero that scored Anthony Rizzo, holding off the pesky Tribe, who scored a run of their own in the bottom of the 10th inning on a Rajai Davis single to accelerate the heartbeats of Cubs Nation. Fortunately for Cubs fans, Mike Montgomery induced a slow ground ball to a charging Kris Bryant, who flipped a perfect throw over to Rizzo to end the game and the World Series for the long-suffering Cubs’ fans.

Goldin Auctions is proud to offer at auction two significant pieces of history involving that monumental play – the individual fielding gloves of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. Kris Bryant’s right-handed Rawlings PRO200-6K model glove, used to field that last ground ball off the bat of Cleveland’s Michael Martinez is a tan glove with “Kris Bryant” embroidered in blue on the outer thumb. The 12 ¼-inch glove has the Rawlings’ trademark “R” red patch affixed to the lower outer thumb and the red “Rawlings EST 1887” patch is sewn on the outer wrist. Bryant signed his name in black marker on the lower outside thumb below the “R” patch. He inscribed vertically on the outer webbing “2016 World Series Champs” and “Last Out!!”. The glove displays heavy game use with pocket wear and abrasions on the outer fingers. Bryant’s glove comes fully authenticated with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JC033964) which authenticated that Bryant used this glove during Game 7 of the 2016 World Series and authenticated his signature and inscriptions. Also, there is a hologram from Fanatics (AA0003775) which authenticates Bryant’s glove’s game use, signature and inscriptions.

Anthony Rizzo’s historic glove, which caught the final out of the game, is all black with blue laces. His left-handed Rawlings PROCMHO model glove is 12 ¾ inches with “Anthony Rizzo” embroidered in blue along the outside of the thumb. The Rawlings’ trademark “R” red patch is affixed to the lower outer thumb and the red “Rawlings EST 1887” patch is sewn on the outer wrist. Rizzo has signed his name in silver marker on the palm and inscribed “2016 World Series Game Used” and “Game 7 last out”. The glove displays heavy game use with dirt stains on the palm and lower webbing and abrasion marks on the outer laces. This glove comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (JB000741) and has been designated as “Player Collected Item”. It was collected from Rizzo on November 4th, just two days after the World Series. Additionally, there is a hologram from Fanatics (AA0002869) which authenticates the game use and Rizzo’s signature and inscriptions. Two truly remarkable pieces of baseball history offered in one lot!
