One of, if not THE most iconic item in our hobby is a Babe Ruth autograph. To have a signed ball or picture from the Babe is often the cornerstone of any collection. And although a signed ball or photo are both outstanding pieces to behold, a Ruth signature on a bat – the very tool of his greatness – is something altogether extraordinary. This outstanding 1940’s era Hillerich & Bradsby store model bat has been signed on the barrel by the Babe in strong in strong black fountain pen, made all the more legible due to the sanding of the bat’s surface prior to the slugger adding his signature. The bat itself is in wonderful condition, the wood aging to a deep brown tone. The bat’s length “35” is stamped into the knob and there are some cleat impressions, scuffs and abrasions, none of which take away from the outstanding display quality of this piece. Any Babe Ruth signed piece is special – but an autographed bat is in another realm entirely. The bat comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication and Ruth’s signature has been graded a MINT 9.
