Many non-sports enthusiasts are committed to the assembly of "type" collections, particularly the gathering of at least one example from each of the listings in the American Card Catalog's "R" category. Although those hobbyists apply considerable dedication to the pursuit of the "R's" – usually defined as the "General Series" of 1930s gum cards numbered from R1 through R189, inclusive, in the ACC listings – virtually all of those diligently amassed projects are several entries short of completion. Presented is one of the perennial stumbling blocks: an attractive specimen from R162, Overland Candy's "Walt Disney Pictures" release. This blank-backed rarity is printed on thin cardstock and measures about 5" x 7". Its evidence of past circulation is limited to a mark on the front and a corner crease. Presentation quality is VG/EX. As a point of reference on value, this example last sold at auction for $1,670 (March, 2016). Here's a tremendous "type" piece from its specialty, featuring a fantastic blend of Disney charm and hobby mystique!
Incredibly Rare 1930s R162 Overland Candy "Walt Disney Pictures" – "Donald Duck"
