Offered here is a 21 x 28-inch frame display featuring individually signed black and white photographs of the 1949 World Series Champion New York Yankees. In 1949 the New York Yankees won the first of their five consecutive World Series championships. Led by the aging Joe DiMaggio and a crack pitching staff led by Vic Raschi, Ed Lopat, and Allie Reynolds, the Yankees won 97 regular season games during manager Casey Stengel’s first year with the team. Their World Series foe was the Brooklyn Dodgers, a team the Yankees would face 11 times in the Fall Classic. This iteration of the rivalry ended the way most did: with a dominating Yankee victory. The Bronx Bombers won the series in five games to win their 12th World Series title.
Joe DiMaggio’s photograph is prominently displayed on the center and the Hall of Famer has signed his name in blue. Clockwise starting to the left of DiMaggio are Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, Hank Bauer, Tommy Henrich, Billy Johnson, Bobby Brown (due to a failed first attempt with a ballpoint pen, Brown rewrote his signature using a blue fiber-tip marker), Allie Reynolds and Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto. Below DiMaggio’s signed photograph and between the signed images of Rizzuto and Reynolds, is a ticket stub from Game 1 of the 1949 World Series at Yankee Stadium. This display piece comes with a LOA from JSA (X55721).
