There is a heavy coating of Mota Stick on the handle and a black mark on the handle that identifies the grain, which has been mandatory per Major League Baseball for all maple bats since 2009. Braun’s number “8” has been handwritten in black marker on the knob, while the length “35”, weight “31.5oz” and manufacture date “06/18/09” have been written black on the inside of the cupped barrel end.
