1977 was the pivotal season of Reggie Jackson’s career. Formally hidden away from the limelight in sleepy Oakland and Baltimore, 1977 saw Jackson’s debut with the New York Yankees. Despite feuding with the team and in particular the manager, Billy Martin, Reggie surpassed all expectations and demonstrated to himself and the world that he was the biggest star in the game. This bat dates to Reggie’s initial New York summer, a silent witness to the excitement and chaos he brought back to Yankees baseball. The Adirondack 288 RJ model bat shows good game use and is un-cracked. The barrel displays many ball marks and the finish has worn off in places. The handle has a light coat of pine tar and the model number “288” is stamped into the knob. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B12736) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 7.5 and a letter of provenance from a batboy who detailed how this bat was obtained.
