Presented is a full ticket from the 1999 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, held at Boston’s Fenway Park on July 13, 1999. The American League topped the National League, 4-1, in 1999, but the game itself may have been an afterthought, factoring in all the other festivities that took place that night at Fenway. Prior to the Classic, the host Boston Red Sox honored Hall of Famer Ted Williams, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch and was promptly encircled and celebrated by all the players present on the field. Earlier, Williams Stan Musial, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron were among those honored as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team. Once the game began, Pedro Martinez, pitching in his home park, struck out the side in the first inning and finished his two scoreless innings with five punchouts. He was the first pitcher in history to begin the All-Star Game striking out the side. In all he struck out five of the six batters he faced, earning him Game MVP honors, becoming the second player in All-Star Game history to be named MVP as a member of the host team.
