After finishing the regular season with a record of 30-11-1, the Michigan Wolverines qualified for the 1998 NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey tournament. Michigan defeated Princeton and North Dakota in regional play to reach the Frozen Four. In the national semifinal game, the Wolverines blanked New Hampshire, 4-0, to reach the final against Boston College. A third period goal by Michigan’s Mark Kosick tied the score at two, before Josh Langfeld scored in overtime, giving the Wolverines the national championship. Michigan goalie Marty Turco – who would have an All-Star career in the NHL – was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Presented here is a Jostens 10K gold 1998 Michigan Wolverines NCAA ice hockey national championship ring, featuring a large letter “M” – filled with CZs – on a blue colored stone. “1998 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS” appears around the bezel setting in relief work. One side reads “YOST ARENA” above the arena image, with “GO BLUE” below. The opposite side features an enamel-filled Michigan hockey logo, with “ANDERSON” at the top and “DR” at the bottom. Engraving inside the band includes the score and date of the title game along with manufacturer and 10K marks. This ring is an approximate size 10 and weighs approximately 42.9 grams.
