In 2000, FIFA’s continental champions descended on Brazil for the prestigious FIFA Club World Championship tournament. Corinthians hosted the tournament, while Copa Libertadores winners Vasco da Gama also entered the tournament. UEFA was the only other confederation with multiple teams, sending Manchester United of England and Real Madrid of Spain to Brazil. Vasco and Corinthians advanced to the final at Estádio do Maracanã, with Corinthians emerging the victors after an intense penalty shootout. Freddie Rincon captained Corinthians while Vasco by the veteran Romario and starlet Juninho Pernambucano.
Offered in this lot is a winners’ medal from the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship in Brazil. Etched in high relief on the front of this medal is the FIFA logo and “FIFA Club World Championship”. The reverse side of the medal features a high relief etching of the FIFA Club World Championship trophy and “BRAZIL 2000”. Etched on either side of the trophy is “World” and “Champion”. This medal is in excellent condition.
