United States soccer icon Michelle Akers wore this United States Women’s National Team home white jersey during the 1991 FIFA World Cup Final against Norway. This jersey has been photo matched to the final played at Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou, China on November 30th, 1991 by Sports Investors Authentication. In the inaugural edition of the tournament, Akers and the USWNT dominated competition on their way to a decisive victory over Norway in the tournament final. Akers led the competition with 10 goals, including both of Team USA’s goals in the 2-1 win over Norway in the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final. The FIFA Player of the Century added another five goals in a seven-nil defeat of Chinese Taipei in the Quarterfinals and finished the World Cup as the Silver Ball recipient.
Akers enjoyed one of the finest careers of any United States international, amassing 155 caps and scoring 107 goals for the Stars and Stripes. A two-time FIFA World Cup champion, Akers also led the United States to victory in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics in the Olympic debut of women’s soccer. The former four-time All American at the University of Central Florida was named the co-Player of the Century by FIFA in 2000 and was selected to Pele’s “FIFA 100” list of greatest living soccer players in 2004.
This white Adidas jersey features Akers’ number “10” sewn on in blue and red tackle twill. The United States Soccer Federation circular patch is sewn on the upper left chest and the right shoulders/sleeves have large blue, red and blue diagonal stripes. The back of the jersey has Akers’ number “10” sewn on in blue and red tackle twill and the continuation of the three diagonal blue, red and blue stripes on the right shoulder and sleeve. The jersey displays moderate to heavy use and comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers herself, along with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication, who have photo matched this jersey to the 1991 Women’s World Cup Final. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
