It was fitting that in his final season in the majors Derek Jeter would pass another great shortstop as the number 6 leader in career base hits. That other great shortstop was, of course, Honus Wagner, and Jeter tied the baseball icon during the August 9, 2014 game against Cleveland in Yankee Stadium. The hit came in the bottom of the 6th of Corey Kluber, a single down the 3rd base line. Jeter would indeed retire after the season, ending his 20-year career with 3,465 base hits to his name. This uniform was the one Jeter was wearing when he tied Wagner in career hits.
This classic Yankees home pinstripe jersey has the traditional intertwined “NY” on the chest in navy with the Majestic label with size “46” and “2014” hang tags. A Steiner/Yankees bar code is affixed below with an MLB hologram (HZ306282) affixed. The back of the jersey has Jeter’s number “2” in navy tackle twill upon which The Captain has signed his name and inscribed “Tied Wagner 8-9-14 Hit 3,4,30.” The matching pinstripe pants have the Majestic label inside the waistband which is stamped “2 JETER 35-40-36 OB ’14.” A Steiner hologram is affixed with an MLB hologram (HZ306287) also applied. Both the jersey and pants have moderate game use with some slight staining from pine tar and perspiration. A great game used uniform set from one of Jeter’s most momentous career accomplishments. This uniform set comes with MLB holograms (HZ306282 and HZ306287) for the game use and a Steiner Sports COA for the signature and an additional game use hologram.
