In 2001 Junior was hitting .286 with 22 home runs for his hometown Cincinnati Reds when a series of heartbreaking injuries began. Years of playing all-or-nothing baseball had taken its toll on Junior’s body, and unwilling to compromise, he continued to play the only way he knew how: all-out. Griffey began 2002 in fine form but suffered a season-ending injury after just 70 games. Still, Junior managed a .278 average with 30 home runs in that injury-riddled stretch, demonstrating the sheer determination that would eventually make Junior a Hall of Famer. Used during the 2001-2002 seasons, Griffey’s Louisville Slugger C271 model bat displays tremendous game use. The handle has been broken and the barrel shows cracking to the wood surface. There are many ball marks and cleat imprints present and the handle has been taped in a crisscross pattern to enhance the grip. A true gamer that visually demonstrates the raw power of Ken Griffey, Jr. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B06901) for the game use.
