“The Killer” Harmon Killebrew turned 30 in 1966 and his place as one of the most feared hitters in the game was cemented by four home run crowns and six All-Star selections. The previous year his big bat helped his Twins win their first pennant in franchise history, and 1966 would show him having an even better year at the plate. Killebrew banged out 39 home runs while batting .281, second highest average of his career. Opposing pitchers showed their fear of the Twins slugger by walking him a league-leading 103 times that summer.

This is the jersey Killebrew wore on the road during that 1966 season. The gray flannel has “Twins” in red and navy script across the front. A Spalding label is sewn in the lower left front tale with a size 44 hang tag affixed. “Killebrew 3 44 66” is chain stitched below in navy and cleaning instructions are sewn along the bottom hem. The collar has a white strip tag with “Killebrew” in navy chain stitching and the name “LOEWE” has been handwritten in black marker adjacent. The left sleeve has the classic Twins mascot patch showing ballplayers from the rival cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul shaking hands. The back has The Killer’s number “3” in red and navy. Traces of the number “24” can be seen below the number “3”, indicating that this jersey was stripped after the 1966 season and sent to one of the Twins minor league affiliates, a common practice in that era. The number “3” being restored later. The jersey shows good game use with overall toning and scuffs along with perspiration stains. The lettering and graphics show fading and puckering from age and laundering and there are several loose threads visible. A visually attractive flannel from the mid-point of Harmon Killebrew’s Hall of Fame career. The jersey comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game use.
