With all the able-bodied men in the service, baseball continued on as best it could. The war years saw the St. Louis Browns win their first and only pennant, and they would have repeated in 1945 if it wasn’t for the Detroit Tigers. This Tigers team was based around 2-time AL MVP pitcher Hal Newhouser and Hank Greenberg’s timely return after 5 years in the Army. The Tigers met the Chicago Cubs in World Series and edged them out in a tight 7-game series. This ball collects the majority of the 1945 World Champion Tigers including Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg plus Hal Newhouser, Rudy York, Joe Hoover, Walt Wilson, Skeeter Webb, Stubby Overmire, Zeb Eaton, Les Meuller, Hub Walker, Art Houtteman, Art Mills, Pat McLaughlin, Al Benton, Roy Cullenbine, Joe Orrell, Eddie Mayo, Bob Swift, Bob Maier, Hack Miller and Chuck Hostetler. This ball comes with a LOA from JSA for the signatures.
