In 1930 Connie Mack’s Athletics proved their come-from-behind defeat of the much-favored Chicago Cubs was no fluke. The A’s ran away with the pennant early on, finishing 8 games over Washington and 16 games over New York. This club, often called by historians as the greatest MLB team of all-time, featured no less than five future Hall of Famers: Connie Mach who would win his 5th World Championship that fall, 1930’s AL batting champ Al Simmons, 37 home run hitting Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Cochrane with his .357 average, pitching Triple Crown winner Lefty Grove and veteran Eddie Collins off the bench as a pinch hitter. Add in the best fielding shortstop of the age Joe Boley, slugging outfielders Mule Haas and Bing Miller plus 22 game winner George Earnshaw and you have an unstoppable mixture of power and pitching.

The A’s met the Cardinals in the World Series where the lefty-righty combo of Grove and Earnshaw kept the St. Louis bats cool and won two games each as the A’s won their second consecutive World Championship 4 games to 2. This Draper and Maynard Official League Ball has the signatures of 22 of the 1930 World Champs including Hall of Famers Connie Mack, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Eddie Collins, and Mickey Cochrane plus George Earnshaw, Joe Boley, Jimmy Dykes, Jack Quinn, Howard Ehmke, Wally Schang, Eddie Rommel, Mule Haas, Homer Summa, Bill Shores, Rube Walberg, Max Bishop, Bing Miller, and A’s owner Thomas Shibe. The ball shows toning from age and has been given a coat of shellac which has darkened and flaked off in parts – however, the black fountain pen signatures are very bold and display extraordinarily well. A great example of what may have been the greatest professional baseball team of all-time. This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
