Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this St. Jude Catholic Youth Organization Most Valuable Player Trophy in 1961. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was a member of the St. Jude Elementary School Class of 1961, and at the age of 14 already 6’8” tall. His prowess on the basketball court was well developed at a young age, and Abdul-Jabbar would soon star for one of the best high school basketball programs in the country at the nearby Power Memorial Academy.

This offered trophy measures approximately 13 inches tall and is constructed of a white plastic base with a diameter of 4 inches topped by a statuette of a basketball player. A plaque on this award reads “C.Y.O. / St. Jude / 1961 / Most Valuable”. This historically significant award, which originates from the earliest part of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s life, derives directly from Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.

Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium (28% if payment is made using a credit card and/or is not paid within 10 days of invoice). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price to The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
