When you think of the greatest baseball team of all-time, 9 times out of 10 the 1927 Yankees comes to mind first. With a power-hitting lineup so deadly it was called “Murderer’s Row,” this iconic team hit a combined 110 home runs, setting a new AL record and winning the pennant by 19 games. Ruth, of course, hit 60 homers that year and Lou Gehrig won his first MVP Award, but what made the 1927 Yankees such a powerhouse was their deep bench and light’s out pitching staff. While Ruth, Combs and Meusel were the regular outfielders, Miller Huggins could also sleep easy knowing he had Ben Paschal and Cedric Durst, starters on any other team, waiting in reserve.

The pitching rotation of Hoyt, Shocker, Pennock and Ruether was tops in the league, but what kept them fresh was the pioneering relief work of Wilcy Moore and Myles Thomas. Yes, the 1927 Yankees had Ruth and Gehrig, but they wouldn’t have been as formidable had it not been for the other names on this team signed ball.

The Reach Official American League Ban Johnson ball has been signed by 25 members of the most famous baseball team of all-time, including Hall of Famers Babe Ruth (clubhouse) on the sweet spot followed by Lou Gehrig, Waite Hoyt, Tony Lazzeri, Earle Combs, plus George Pipgras, Pat Collins, Ray Morehart, Bennie Bengough, Herb Pennock, Myles Thomas, Bob Meusel, Johnny Grabowski, Ben Paschal, Cedric Durst, Mark Koenig, Joe Giard, Julie Wera, Dutch Reuther, Urban Shocker, Bob Shawkey, Joe Dugan, Wilcy Moore and even the team’s trainer, Doc Woods. The black fountain pen signatures are strong against the ball which has taken on some toning and light staining from age, none of which detracts from the key signatures. A vintage layer of shellac coats the ball which has flaked off in places, but again, this does not detract from the strong signatures. This baseball comes with a LOA from JSA.
