The 1976 season was the final hurrah for those Cincinnati Reds teams of the 1970s. The “Big Red Machine” was running on all cylinders as diminutive second baseman Joe Morgan ran away with the National League MVP award for the second straight season. Two more Reds - George Foster and Pete Rose, also found themselves in the top four of the MVP race. The Reds won 102 games in 1976, cruising to the National League West Division title with a 10-game cushion over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They continued their stellar play throughout the postseason, dispatching the Phillies in a three game NLCS and sweeping the Yankees to claim the World Series title.
