In 1969, Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this William “Dolly” King Memorial Award for Outstanding Metropolitan College Athlete. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, had just finished an incredible career with the UCLA Bruins, winning three NCAA titles among countless other personal and team accolades. This plaque measures 13 x 16 inches, with an ornate gold colored plaque affixed to the main, wooden backing. On the gold-colored plaque “William ‘Dolly’ King Memorial Award Presented to Lew Alcindor U.C.L.A.-All American / Outstanding College Athlete Presented by Manhattan Community College 1969” is engraved. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
