In 2019, United States Soccer celebrated the 20th anniversary of the United States Women’s National Team iconic victory in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The USWNT won the title in a thrilling penalty shootout at the Rose Bowl, winning their second World Cup and bringing soccer to a new generation of USWNT fans.
Offered in this lot is Michelle Akers’ personally owned red Nike top worn during USWNT anniversary celebrations. Akers was the Bronze Ball winner at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, battling through injury and illness to ensure the FIFA World Cup Trophy returned to United States’ soil. This long-sleeved top is a zip-up, with a United States Soccer logo applied to the left chest and a Nike logo sewn on the right. A 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions pin is affixed to this historic garment. This jacket comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
