At some point in 1929, Philadelphia A’s manager Connie Mack brought together members of his first dynasty, the 1910-14 team that won three World Championships and 4 pennants. That Mack chose 1929 to hold a reunion of his former World Champs was interesting because this was the season that would start him on another great dynasty – the 1929-31 A’s – a club some say was the greatest ever assembled in baseball history. This Spalding Official National League ball has been signed by15 Philadelphia Athletic greats including Hall of Famer Chief Bender plus Jack Barry (shortstop on the 1908-1915 teams), John McInnis (Mack’s 1st baseman on his 1909-1917 teams), Morrie Rath (2nd baseman 1909-10), Cy Morgan (pitcher 1909-12 teams), Harry Davis (infielder on the 1913-17 teams), Eddie Murphy (outfielder on the 1912-15 teams), Dave Danforth (pitcher on the 1911-12 teams), Joe Bush (pitcher on the 1912-1917 teams) and Ira Thomas (catcher for the 1909-15 teams). Those veterans of Mack’s first dynasty are joined on this ball by two of the outfielders from his 1929 Championship club, Doc Cramer and Walter French. The ball shows toning from age and there are some signature removals throughout that were presumably done to date the ball to a specific era and/or team. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (O01188) for the signatures.
