United States soccer legend Michelle Akers was presented with this Silver Ball award after leading the United States Women’s Soccer Team to the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup title in the inaugural edition of the global soccer showcase. Akers, a dominant center forward, scored a tournament-leading 10 goals in 1991, including five goals in a 7-0 drubbing of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals. The former UCF collegian scored both goals for the USWNT in the final against Norway, including the game-winner with just two minutes remaining in the 80-minute match to clinch a 2-1 victory for the Stars and Stripes. Akers partner in the USA’s “Triple Edged Sword” attack, Carin Jennings, was awarded the Gold Ball, with Akers taking home the Golden Boot and Silver Ball in a legacy-defining performance.

This offered Silver Ball award takes the shape of a soccer ball supported by a silver neck on a black pedestal. The trophy shows minor weathering due to age, but its undeniable quality and pedigree shine through on this historic trophy, the first awarded in Women’s World Cup history. In addition to this Silver Ball trophy, Akers was awarded the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Bronze Ball after leading the USWNT to their second World Cup title, this time on home turf. This offered Silver Ball award comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. Please note that a portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
