For the first time since the 1920s the Pittsburgh Pirates were able to finally win a pennant in 1960. Years of tough rebuilding by Branch Rickey had forged the Pirates into a tight unit, with Roberto Clemente providing the offensive power and a first-rate pitching staff of Vern Law, Elroy Face, Bob Friend and Harvey Haddix winning 59 games between them. Of course, it would be Bill Mazeroski’s Game 7 winning home run that will forever make this team one of the most exciting in baseball history. 22 members of the World Champion Pirates have signed this Spalding Official National League Giles ball in blue pen including Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente plus manager Danny Murtaugh, Elroy Face, Harvey Haddix, Don Hoak, Tom Cheney, Virgil Trucks, George Witt, Vern Law, Dick Groat, Bill Verdon, Hal Smith, Joe Christopher, Bob Friend, Rocky Nelson, Mickey Vernon, Bob Skinner, Gene Baker, and Bob Oldis and an unknown hand has inscribed “1960 World Champs. The ball is in beautiful condition with just very light toning and the signatures are very crisp and clear. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AF01059) for the signatures and has been graded an overall MM-MT 7. There is an additional LOA from SGC (AA10317).
