In 1991, the Minnesota Twins won their second World Series in The North Star State, defeating the Atlanta Braves in a seven game World Series. Led by Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett and a pitching staff of Jack Morris, Kevin Tapani, and Scott Erickson, the Twins won 95 games and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in a five-game ALCS. The 1991 World Series is regarded as a modern classic, as three of the games went to extra innings. Game 7 was especially tense, as Jack Morris dueled John Smoltz in the deciding game. Morris came out on top, throwing a 10-inning complete game shutout, as Gene Larkin’s walk-off single gave Minnesota its second Commissioner’s Trophy.
