Powered by an explosive offense that featured the big bats of Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, David Justice, Matt Williams and Sandy Alomar, the Cleveland Indians finished the 1997 regular season atop the AL Central division. Thome (40 HRs, 102 RBIs), Justice (33, 101) and Williams (32, 105) each had at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs for the season. Ramirez hit .328 with 26 HRs and 88 RBIs, and Alomar added 21 HRs and 83 RBIs while hitting .324. Charles Nagy led the pitching staff with 15 wins as Orel Hershiser finished with a record of 14-6. The Indians defeated the Baltimore Orioles to win the American League Championship Series, before falling to the Florida Marlins, in seven games, in the World Series.
