Perhaps no season was as exciting as 1998’s single-season home run race. All summer, St. Louis’ Mark McGwire, Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr. and Chicago’s Sammy Sosa battled it out, each striving to break the most famous record in the game – Roger Maris’ 61 home run mark. Big Mac eventually emerged the victor, hitting the record breaking 62nd homer on September 8th and adding eight more by the time the season ended to finish with 70.
McGwire used this Rawlings MAC25 model bat during the 1998 season. This bat displays outstanding game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks and stitch impressions present on the barrel.”MAC25” and “98” have been stamped on the knob. “33 McGwire” has been handwritten in black pen. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B07167) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5.
