In 1980 Yankees great Willie Randolph led the AL in walks and posted numbers of .332 batting, 99 runs scored, 30 stolen bases and a .427 on-base percentage. No other second baseman in the league was better than Willie that year and he was given that year’s Silver Slugger Award. Given to the player with the best offensive performance at each position, the trophy features a 34"-long silver-plated bat, which is attached to a wooden base in the shape of home plate, and a wood backing with a "Louisville Slugger" logo situated at top right. The engraved plaque reads, “HILLERICH & BRADSBY CO. SILVER SLUGGER AWARD PRESENTED TO WILLIE RANDOLPH – 2B NEW YORK 1980” and goes on to list the rest of the AL Silver Slugger team from that season. The piece shows some wear from display with some surface scuffs and abrasions. This bat comes directly from the collection of Willie Randolph and a signed LOA from Willie Randolph will accompany this item.
