Starting pitcher David Wells – who was phenomenal that season, recording an 18-4 record – provided the Yankees with their most thrilling moment of the regular season on May 17, 1998. Facing the Minnesota Twins at home, Wells pitched a perfect game – 27 up, 27 down – while striking out 11 batters in New York’s 4-0 win. The 120-pitch perfecto moved Wells to 5-1 on the early season.

One larger round diamond is set in the middle of a baseball field image, with additional smaller diamonds set at the bases and home plate. “PERFECT GAME 1998” is displayed in relief work around the perimeter.
