Willie Randolph was a standout player for the New York Yankees. A member of the 1977 and 1978 World Series-winning teams, Randolph was a steady presence at second base and at the plate. Randolph finished his career with 2,210 hits. Following his playing career that ended after the 1992 season, Randolph joined the coaching ranks and re-joined the Yankees in 1994. Randolph spent his fourth season as a coach in 1997 and was one of the coaches during the 1997 All-Star Game.
Offered here are two jerseys worn by Randolph during the 1997 season. The first jersey is a home Yankees’ button-down made by Russell Athletic and is a size 46. The interlocking “NY” is sewn on the upper left chest in navy tackle twill and the Russell tag and “RANDOLPH 35-30-97” tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail. The right sleeve has the “50th Anniversary Jackie Robinson” patch and the back of the jersey has Randolph’s number “30” sewn on in navy tackle twill. This jersey displays light game use and Randolph signed his name in silver marker on the top of the “0” and inscribed “97 Game Used” on the left rung of the “0”.
The second jersey is an American League red batting practice jersey. Randolph, as part of the Yankees’ coaching staff from the 1996 American League and World Series Champions, represented the American League in the 1997 All-Star Game in Cleveland. The button-down jersey has “AMERICAN” sewn on across the chest in white and navy tackle twill. Navy piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons. The Majestic tag and size “44” flag are sewn on the bottom of the left front tail. The right sleeve has the “50th Anniversary Jackie Robinson” patch and the left sleeve has the Yankees’ logo patch. The back of this jersey has “RANDOLPH” and “30” sewn on in white and navy tackle twill. Randolph has singed his name on the top rung of the “0” and inscribed “97 All-Star Game” on the left rung of the “0” and “Workout Jersey” on the right rung. These game worn jerseys derive from the Willie Randolph Collection and comes with a signed LOA from Willie Randolph.
