Presented is an inscription and signature from New York Yankees slugger Roger Maris on a 1961 black and white Associated Press wire service photo during his historic run to the single season home run record. Maris has inscribed “To Bob Good Luck Roger Maris 2-19-81” in black marker on the photo of him hitting home run #61 on October 1, 1961 at Yankee Stadium. The 8 x 10-inch photo includes a caption, dateline New York, “Connecting for No. 61 – New York Yankee Roger Maris swings and connects with the ball as he hits his 61st homer in the fourth inning of game with Boston at Yankee Stadium today. He thus became the most prolific home run hitter in major league baseball history, exceeding Babe Ruth’s historic total of 60 made in 1927.” This item comes with a full LOA from JSA (BB32254).
